Quantum Network Infrastructure and Workforce Development Act of 2021
Purpose
A bill to promote focused research and innovation in quantum communications and quantum network infrastructure to bolster internet security, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Recommends Congress provide the National Institute of Standards and Technology $10 million annually over five years to conduct research on quantum networking and communications technologies
- Instructs the Department of Energy to supplement the Energy Sciences Network User Facility with “dedicated quantum network infrastructure”
- Directs the National Science Foundation to create a “Next Generation Quantum Leaders Pilot Program” to support efforts at the K–12 level to introduce students to the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics
