Women in physics: A tale of limits
The low representation of women in physics is a well-known problem, but differences in men’s and women’s access to career-advancing resources and opportunities comprise another challenge for the physics community. Across all countries, women physicists have fewer resources and opportunities and are more affected by cultural expectations concerning child care than are physicists who are men. This report is based on a study conducted with 15,000 female and male respondents from 130 countries. This report is published in Physics Today (Feb. 2012).
