Department of Energy Science for the Future Act
Purpose
To provide guidance for and investment in the research and development activities of the Department of Energy Office of Science, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Recommends Congress increase the annual budget of the Department of Energy Office of Science from the current level of $7.0 billion to $11.1 billion over five years.
- Recommends funding profiles and completion dates for major facility construction and upgrade projects managed by the office
- Provides policy guidance across the office’s six main research programs, which span basic energy sciences, biological and environmental research, advanced scientific computing research, fusion energy sciences, high energy physics, and nuclear physics
- Directs the office to undertake new initiatives in high energy laser research, helium conservation, and quantum networking, among other areas
