Department of Energy Biological Innovation Opportunities Act
Purpose
To provide for advanced biological and environmental research and development capabilities and infrastructure at the Department of Energy, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Provides statutory backing for the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Research Centers program, directing DOE to maintain up to four centers that conduct research in support of fuel production, bioimaging, chemical extraction from “sustainable biomass resources,” and the application of research to industry
- Directs DOE to maintain user facilities that include earth system observation platforms, instrumentation for analysis of biological and environmental data, and high-throughput genomic sequencing
